Observation tower in the Latvian State Forest Nature Park in Tērvete, surrounded by a forest

Before the start of the active tourism season, this spring, the experts from JSC  “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM) conducted a technical inspection of the wooden observation tower in LVM Nature Park in Tērvete. During the inspection, some damage was reported; therefore, due to safety considerations, the 39-meter-high observation tower will not be available to visitors during the repairs.

LVM specialists regularly inspect the tourism objects under their control – swamp footbridges, viewing platforms, picnic areas, etc. Special attention is paid to observation towers – every year, in accordance with regulatory enactments, the towers are inspected by LVM employees, but once every five years, all towers are technically inspected by certified civil engineers, who prepare conclusions and, if necessary, indicate the repair work to be carried out.

This spring, several structural elements of the observation tower in the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete were reported; thus, a decision was made to close the tower while the possibilities of tower restoration are assessed. Already this season, park guests will be able to use the new visitor and information center with a modern, 25-meter-high observation tower, the construction of which uses glued timber structures.

The LVM Nature Park in Tērvete is one of the most popular tourist and family-friendly places in Latvia. Its total area is about 1,200 hectares. In 2025, the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete hosted a record number of visitors – 166.7 thousand young and old nature lovers.
